This Story is about Ronald McDonald House

Hi my name is Ashley I am currently 18 years old and i have been going to the Boston Ronald McDonald house since i was 9 years old. I was diagnosed with A typical Neouro Cytoma a type of cancer that had not been treated, or heard of in the United States in over 20 years! I had consistent massive headaches for days and days when finally i just kept falling asleep. My mom brought me to the local ER considering about the fact that I never complained about anything. She also is a very over protective mother, so she wanted to make sure everything was ok before we went on vacation. At the ER my dad happened to be there doing some testing for work, and the doctor said "is that your husband don't let him leave. The next thing I knew was I was in and ambulance on the way to Boston Children’s Hospital. Needless to say I had surgery and it was found to be a brain tumor. McDonald house allowed my dad to be near me while i was being treated my mom stayed with me in the hospital. I got severely burned from the radiation since it was an adult dose and was extremely sick from all the chemo I didn't leave the hospital for at least 1yr.All the doctors thought I was going to need skin grafts but my dad was consistent on cleaning and putting cream on the burns, my skin began to heal. When I finally did transition to McDonald house my mom and I took a while to adjust to sharing everything. Today that is no longer a problem the people that work at the house in Boston, Massachusetts are truly just an extension of my family. I love them all and could never thank them enough for the support they provided for my family and I. I still return to the hospital a lot for checkups but as of today I am cancer free. This house it truly my second home.and the people are my second family I know I will grow up, and eventually my times going to the house will become less, and less but The Ronald McDonald house will ALWAYS BE MY SECOND HOME.

When I got better over 3yrs I felt like I needed to give back so I held fundraisers and filled out forms etc. and raised over 36,000 dollars. I hope to continue but for now I am working on my Associates degree in Early Childhood.

    This Story is about Volunteers

My son was born@ 31 weeks and was 2lbs and 4ozs. I was very sad and my husband was out of the country while he was born. The nurses @ Loyola took very good care of him while he was there for a little over a month. The volunteers while I never met them helped me stay strong. Their knitted blankets and hats for him meant the world to me. Once he was discharged I noticed in his folder some handmade green earrings! I want to thank these "invisible angels" for all that they do and know that it is appreciated. My son will be 1 next month and is 24lbs.

This Story is about Ronald McDonald House

In 2004, I experienced one of the scariest nights of my life when I was involved in a car accident that required the jaws of life to remove me from the vehicle. I was severely injured, and at that moment thought my life might end. I was transported to Cooper Medical Center's Trauma Unit for 10 days to be observed and attended to by their wonderful doctors, staff and nurses. The nightmare of that night continued to haunt my parents. Ronald McDonald House located in Camden was their saving grace and mine. They provided affordable stay so that my parents could be by my side day and night through my recovery journey. They provided food, shelter, but most of all loving support and kind words, hope and prayers. There are many days that still go by that I thank god for giving me another chance at life, the support of my closeknit family and my caring friends. I will forever be greatful to Ronald McDonald House charities for making such a devestating experience, alittle brighter, alittle less worrisome and reminder of HOPE.

This Story is about Ronald McDonald House Family Room

I have grown up seeing the Ronald McDonld House collection station at the local McDonalds and always enjoyed being able to put whatever loose change I had inside the box. Today, i found myself in the drive-thru a McDonalds looking at the "Lend a Hand" sign for donations for the Ronald McDonald House and again, scraped the $5.00 together for the donation and it inspired me to come back to work and just express my gratitude for what the organization does for families in need.

In January of 2010, my daughter was 5 days old and required to be transfered to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Of course, I was devastated to leave my newborn in the NICU alone. However, she was not alone at all. The Ronald McDonald House allowed me and my husband to rest there in the Ronald McDonald House which was located on the same floor as the NICU. They were so supportive and kind. I met other families whom which were going through tough times as well and they too found support and comfort there in your family rooms.

I tear up everytime I think about the impact that being there in the hospital made. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. I will continue to donate that loose change everytime I pass that collection box!
