Helping Families Rest Easy
Select Comfort, the leading bed retailer in the United States, joined forces with Ronald McDonald House Charities in 2001 by donating 20 Sleep Number beds to the Ronald McDonald House in New York City.
Since then, Select Comfort has:
- Donated 4,700 beds and 11,500 pillows for Ronald McDonald Houses in the United States and Canad
- Contributed $5 million in goods, services and cash donations.
- Celebrated its five-year anniversary as a RMHC sponsor in 2006 by donating 1,000 additional beds.
- Accomplished charitable efforts that include 7,000 employee volunteer hours and $750,000 in contributions from employee payroll deductions, retail promotions and other fundraising.
“This is a natural partnership,” says Bill McLaughlin, Select Comfort president and CEO. “The mission of Select Comfort is to improve people’s lives by improving their sleep. Ronald McDonald House programs provide a temporary home away from home for families of ill and injured children being treated at hospitals far from their homes. Never is a good night’s sleep more essential than when you are coping with the critical illness of a child. If parents sleep well, they have more energy to be strong and supportive of their child.”
The company also created the Sleep Like a Star eBay Auction, a fundraiser in which more than 25 celebrities autographed beds that were auctioned on eBay. All of the auction’s proceeds went directly to RMHC.
Select Comfort’s “Dream for a Family” contest made wishes come true for six families staying at a House. More than 250 families entered the contest. Winners were granted their wishes: A family without insurance was provided with restorative dental work, and a paralyzed father of a child who was undergoing several surgeries was given a standing wheelchair.
In addition to bedroom furniture, Select Comfort also devotes time, energy and monetary donations to the Charity. Employees volunteer at local Houses, and the company organizes fundraising events around the country to benefit local RMHC Chapters.
